80. Step Into the Completed Light. Building a Gaming Board part 14.

It was just a case of highlighting the individual window panes with some white and giving the whole thing a light drybrush of Boltgun Metal.

YES! That would have been the game board complete, however, it took some hefty damage when we had some work done on the staircase, so it is need of repair and a little repaint ¬_¬

Ah well. MOAR of this project to come then!!

Also I shall be continuing other projects soon.

Don't call it a comeback! Or do! We'll see!

79. Are We Actually Back? Building a Gaming Board part 13.

I know.

It has been a long time, but I feel the time is right for a hobby revival.

Maybe this has something to do with me paintitng Amiibo's over on The Science of Selling Yourself Short.
Maybe it has something to do with my foray back into blogging in general in same said place? Maybe, I just fancied it?

Either way, I've had the urge to hobby, and I'm not about to question why, but just take advantage of it for how ever long it sticks around.

So, here comes the update you've all been waiting for!


I clearly had an update in the pipeline from the last time I updated this thing....
So here is where I left off some 6 months ago.








And today, I dusted them off (so much dust =[ ), and finally gloss varnished them!



I know it isn't the biggest update ever, but I have been painting other things.

I've also been busy with my boardgaming blog/e-zine which you can visit 'here.'


So. I plan to ease myself back into this.

In the meantime, I hope you enjoy a trip down memory lane, and check out my other projects too.

78 b? Revamp part 2

So, I finally decided something. Hurrahh!

The Underhive Hero will continue in it's current format.
I feel that changing the content I post here will cheapen the experience somewhat.
The Underhive Hero has always been about modelling, table top wagamming with miniatures and everything associated with that world.
I would very much like it to remain that way.

Good news: The site is maintaining its integrity.

Bad news: Posts will remain on a frequency equal to my hobby work (currently non-existent)

I will however be changing the visuals. Something a bit more professional maybe... who knows.


So what of the content I was going to post here? The art and junk?
Firstly, it is all on my instagram , so you can check it out at any time already!

In addition to this it will sometimes make an appearance here, or be plugged here, just like The science of selling yourself short and my (now dead) Bolter and Chainsword blogs were.

However; and this is the big announcement/ important part, all of that content and everything else will be posted to The science of selling yourself short

Indeed The Cardboard Cartographer will be the primary purpose of the blog, turning into more of an e-zine, with my personal blog as a side note.

The reason for this is the contents of my 'blog' will a) cloud the work I do on The Cardboard Cartographer and b) will by and large be covered by a new project I'm working on.

Well this is the thing. The science of selling yourself short has always been a personal thing.
I think I got it the wrong way around.
The Cardboard Cartographer is clouding my own blog.

So, I have decided to return The science of selling yourself short to its original purpose, and instead launch The Cardboard Cartographer as its own independent blog/ e-zine!

This is a much better move as I can create specific accounts and assests for it, as well as build up its own audience. in addition it will be much easier to move to a host in the future.

So there you have it.
Integrity restored all round.

Thanks for reading and sticking with me during this period of instability. Hopefully things will be much clearer from here on out.

78. Revamp

Wow.
Huge delay in posts.

If any of you read The science of selling yourself short and The Cardboard Cartographer you'll have noticed I plan a huge update over there.

The science of selling yourself short will see the The Cardboard Cartographer take a much more central role.
Indeed The Cardboard Cartographer will be the primary purpose of the blog, turning into more of an e-zine, with my personal blog as a side note.

The reason for this is the contents of my 'blog' will a) cloud the work I do on The Cardboard Cartographer and b) will by and large be covered by a new project I'm working on.

While The science of selling yourself short is going to go through some serious changes, so too is The Underhive Hero.

The Underhive Hero is my personal hobby dungeon.
I post all of my modelling, miniature painting and wargamming gubbins here.

The change here will not be a refocusing of purpose like The science of selling yourself short, but just more content.

From here on out I'll be posting all of my 'less formal' stuff; as well as all of the stuff I've already been posting on here, I will now be posting all of my art, music, writing and whatever else that doesn't fit in over on The science of selling yourself short.

So yeah. Keep your eyes peeled for all of that stuff.

77. Let's give it up for the New year (Reblog)

Happy New year I guess.

Totally re-blogging this from myself!

  Before we get into this new dawn, let us spare a thought or two for the year that has just passed.

Good fucking riddance!

2014 was not a great year for me. I'm pretty sure I spent from mid January hating almost every moment of it.

Which is a bit of an odd notion.
I have never had the urge to do as many things as I have this year.
I have been really inspired to do what I love and to try not to give a fuck about those who look down on it.
But the whole year was just bad thing after bad thing happening to me and my family.
That just created this bubbling pit of apathy and anger, which crept into everything I did and made me not enjoy, well, anything.

You cans see this in the inconsistency of my updates, and the lack of constructive posts outside of The Cardboard Cartographer.

The last 6 weeks have been a massive turn around. I threw caution to the wind and just got out.
I tried to see all the bands I enjoy, tried to see as many people as possible a soften as I felt the need, and tried to drag myself away from looking back at the past.
This culminated in one of the best New years eve's ever; surrounded by friends, enjoying life.

I want to look forward.


So that brings me to 2015.
A New Year. A new start. More clichés.

I hate that shit. But for once, I'm going to indulge in that idea.

I want to get back to begin me minus the depressive state of mind that has plagued me since forever.

So maybe lets talk resolutions.
I mean, they should be for life, not just for the New Year right?

My resolution is a bit of a cop out I guess.
Make a list of things I want and achieve that.
I want to do more. Make more. Live more.
Be happy more.

I guess it is the bucket list idea, but instead of just a one off experience, it will be goals to consistently work towards.


So that is it.
Stay tuned for more from The Underhive Hero this year, and hopefully other stuff too.

I hit 43 posts last year, which is quite a lot (especially compared to The science of selling yourself shot's 22). I'd like to beat that.


Only time will tell.

A blog about not blogging, solved by reblogging a blog about not blogging

I don't blog as I used to, nor as much as I'd like.

I have some things to write about (quiet a lot of things to write about), but sometimes I find that my views can be summed up in more concise words. For example; 'don't be a dick' (thanks Wil Wheaton!).

I'm not as volatile as I used to be. I still have that energy in my mind, but instead of feeling the need to release all of it on the world , I double take and think; 'who really cares,' or sometimes more importantly 'do I really care that much?'

All my little projects: The Cardboard Cartographer, Underhive Hero and so on, suffer from the same fate. The same apathy.
The problem is I always feel a little guilty when I find I can sum up a lot of things a lot more economically, or I just don't have the tenacity, or passion that I once had.

Sometimes you just have to write. For when that passion comes back, that righteous indignation, that need to speak.

'This isn’t one of those posts about not posting, except that it kind of is.

A couple of nights ago, Anne and I were sitting on the couch, Seamus between us, watching Modern Family. A fire in our fireplace warmed our living room, and both of our cats, who were stretched out in front of it.

Modern Family is one of my favourite shows on television, because it brilliantly fills a hole left by the Simpsons, when it stopped being about characters and started being about guest stars and whacky shenanigans: it’s a terrifically funny look at a family trying to be a family while their life happens around them. More often than not, it cleverly weaves together seemingly unrelated stories into a satisfying ending, and the writing is consistently clever and unexpected.

During a commercial, I thought about my kids, and my family. Ryan’s 25 and Nolan’s 23. We see them at least once a week for family dinner, but usually more than that. We’re a close family, we love each other very much, and every moment we spend together makes me so proud of all of us, because we struggled and suffered a lot for years at the petty and vindictive hands of their biological father. That we have anything at all is pretty remarkable, considering how relentlessly he tried to destroy our ability to be a family, and that we have something so special and rare makes all the suffering and struggling worth enduring, because here we are today, Team Wheaton.

I said this wasn’t one of those posts about not posting, except that it kind of is. During that commercial, as I thought about Ryan and Nolan and our lives together, I noticed that I don’t write about us as much as I used to, which means that I don’t write in my blog as much as I used to. More often than not, when one or both of them is over, I can take a picture and post it to Twitter, and it tells an entire story that would have once been saved for a blog post. Yes, I could still do that, and add the picture to the post, but that’s not the way we do things these days, and it feels like most people don’t read or comment on blogs, anyway.

So this isn’t a post about not posting, except that it is. It’s a post that reiterates, for me as much as anyone, that I need to write, because it’s doing the right thing, even when I feel like I don’t have anything to write about.

Runners run, even if they’re not in a race, and they run every day, so they’re ready for the race when they find themselves at the starting line.

Sometimes a nice jog, for the sake of jogging, can be a worthwhile thing. In fact, it’s worthwhile more often than not.'

I will endeavour to jog, for the sake of jogging.

No post November? Totally a thing...

Sorry for the lack of updates this month folks.

Basically, my Birthday is this month, so between trying to drink enough to forget my age and playing Destiny I haven't got round to much.

I'm currently mid Twilight Imperium campaign with a group that meets on Thursday so there will be some musing on that at some point.

Also I've been working on a few old projects modelling wise; trying to get them finish for completion sake.


In addition to that I've been applying for some postgraduate courses in an effort to push my life forward.

Unfortunately that means my blogging has suffered.

It will be back though!
