121. Plastic reinforcement. Sisters of Battle part 23.

As an Armies of the Imperium fan, I obviously had to get the first Triuvirate.

Inquisition, Ad Mech and Sisters of Battle?

I set about building the Sisters first (I did actually build Grefax first, but ya'know)

They're a bit fiddly, especially Celestine.
But I got there.

Here they are, with my marble style basses to go with them;













The eagle eyed of you will recognise that base from a previous post, which can be found here!
Yes, I canabalaised my old Celestine base for the new one.
Fear not though, the old one will be getting a new base...I'm not abandoning her just yet!

All that's left is various girts of sand and cork dust to make the rubble and they're ready to be primed,

I am stuck in two minds weather to keep them in their original colours, or to use something different that will tie them into my current Sisters of Battle more.
It'll be a good while before I paint them, so I've got time XD

119. A prayer filled road to glory. Sister of Battle part 22.

So yes,
I promised more updates of painted miniatures for the Sisters of Battle.
So here is the completed priests (minus the bases) and a completed Jacobs (with bases).

I've been back and forth in my mind about how to to the basses.
I originally wanted white marble, but with bone coloured Sister's it doesn't exactly stand out.
So I then went with black, however using grey for marble effect is actually surprising tricky in comparison to green/ turquoise.

So yeah, there you go!

I paint models.
It happens.

117. A Road to Glory. The Ecclesiarchy. Sisters of Battle part 21.

Another update!!
I know.

It is a bit of a cheat, considering I've done a fair bit, and am just rationing out updates XD

Ah well.
After basecoating all of my Battle Sisters I was pretty burnt out on them, so I decided to do some other painting bits and pieces as a 'break.'

I moved on to something Sisters of Battle related at the very least.


So, you guys may or may not know, when I built my army initially it was designed to have Uriah Jacobs in my list.
(here is a link to the whole built army back then - A road to glory that never seems to catch a break)

So as my break from Sisters of Battle, I decided to paint up Jacobs with a squad of Imperial Priests.

As with Jacobs, my priests are a mix of Empire/ Free People Flagellants from WFB/AoS, Necromunda redemptionists and Imperial guard bits.







A bit of a close up so you can see what they're like (also I really like how I painted the hair on this one)




The scheme may look like a generic red priest scheme, but is actually based on some real life stuff, most notably Jacobs.
Cookie to whoever can guess what it is from .

115. A Road to Glory. Butter Biscuit Basecoat. Sister of Battle part 20.

I know, I know, it has been a while.

Being made redundant a while back really hit me hard emotionally and financially.
Lucky fr me the cover work I spoke of has carried me through just about, but November, December and January where not comfortable for me.

I did a bit of hobbying here and there, but didn't really feel any joy from it... in fairness I didn't feel a great deal of joy form anything.

Over January though my mood has improved, and I've focused on making as much progress I can, in the areas under my control

One of those areas is my hobby.


Sometime in November I set about the task of basecoating all of my Sisters of Battle.

This was a pretty long and arduous process, especially considering
a ) I'm a terribly slow painter
and
b ) I hate batch painting
Purples, Greens, Browns and Blacks (for the black parts and in anticipation of the metal parts)

I'm happy to report though that they are all done... or hey were, until I acquired some more XD
( I couldn't turn down the new canonness and plastic Celestine!)

It took me until late December to finish these basecoats, and then I took a break from them and did some work on some other stuff (which I have subsequently completed, so expect pictures soon)

I'm going to try and forge ahead.
I imagine I'll get distracted at some point though, so no promises.

93. A Road to Glory. Fly You Fools! Sisters of Battle part 19.

While I'm deciding what colour to paint my Imperial Knight I thought I'd work on some other stuff I've been neglecting...so I've been doing a spot of painting and trying to finish off projects here and there.

On project that has been crying out to be finished is my much loved Sisters of Battle.



I had someone make a mold of the metal prototype and have been casting these from green stuff.

As well as this I've started the long process of undercoating and base coating, as well as tidying up the tanks and stuff.

While I've been doing this I've thought about expanding the army a little.
Someone bought me a squad of Sister Repentia. I love the way this unit looks so I've been considering building them.
As well as this, I've got enough Battle Sisters spare to throw in another Battle Sister Squad for extra bodies if needed.
I pretty much 'need' to build 4 heavy flamers and a Promethium relay pipe for my new 1,500 point army anyway, so it wont hurt.

Who knows what else?
Another Exorcist maybe?
Some extra priests?

We'll see.
But expect to see an appearance from L'ordre Des Angels soon!

81. A Road To Glory. Bang Bang Bang Bang. Sisters of Battle Part 19.

  We're keeping this train rolling... think the train from FFVII going around the central pillar in Midgar. Like that.

Anyway, more painting has been done.

Once I'd finished those Lampposts I just picked up the next project on the project tray I had from when I was last painting.

That project was my Sisters of Battle Aegis Defence Line Quad Gun.

Anyway.
I just started layering the various colours; Purple, Green, Gold and Bone.

Here is where I'm at;





With a bit more light




Cameras never really pick out highlights very well, that being said it is quite light and subtle.
It still pops a lot more than it used to.

Almost done.
I just wnat to pick out some details, maybe add a couple of highlights, and find the clear plastic bubble screen thing to go on the front.

76. A Road to Hiding Behind a Wall. Sisters of Battle Part 18.

So much for faith is our shield...

Welcome back to the Underhive!

I've been getting a couple of positive comments on my Aegis Defence Line, so I thought I'd carry on with that during this crazy painting spree I'm on.

That and I really like my Quad Gun!


If I'm honest here, I would have liked to have made more progress with this.
The reason I haven't? Scrubs.

Serious. Since my post 10 days ago I have re-watched  every season of scrubs.
Including the 'med school' spin off.

No comment.


On to painting huh?
I completed the wash and progressive drybrushing stage of the Aegis defence line





While I was doing this I cracked on with the marble tiles on the base of the Quad gun





I also started the gold icons too, because; why not?





The wall / tile mix is almost identical;
Denheb stone > Drybrush Karak & Screaming Skull > Add Ceramite white > progressively more white.
The only difference is that the wash on the wall is a brown one after the first stage,
The tile's wash on the other hand is a sepia wash before the last couple of layers.

The gold is just Vallejo Liquid Copper with a couple of washes of Army Painter Strong Tone.
It needs some layers and highlights to make it a bit more gold.
I like my gold beaten and dirty though, so it wont be too bright when it is done.

In between layers drying I worked on the turret a little



I'm liking how this is turning out.
The Purple is obviously flat and the wrong shade, but it is only foundation purple.
Many layers before that is done.

I thought I'd throw in a little action (ish) shot for fun.



'Dat test sister model cameo.
I like this action shot. It also makes em ware of how important leaving the 'girder' section metalic/ silver-ish.
It creates a nice visual 'barrier' between the Aegis and the models behind it.

While I had the gold out I did some work on another piece,
but I want to do some more on that before I post updates about it (it needs a lot of work!).

75. A Road to Glory. Sisters of Battle Part 17.

Simple title is simple.

So. Basically, I'm lazy and haven't been out to get the Agrellean Earth paint form GW.
So in the meantime I thought I'd keep this painting train rolling.

I decided to starting painting my Sisters of Battle... well... sort of.

I started my Aegis defence line.

Undercoat stage.









Started the base...





Tin Bitz and Boltgun metal drybrush.















Dheneb stone base coat.





Soft tone and Agrax Earthshade wash.



Admittedly it isn't impressive progress, but like all these things I've been painting recently it seem to take forever.

Just the long pieces and tower to wash and then I'll move on to fixing the metals and then some actual painting work.

69. (Giggity) Inquisitor Coteaz Part 2.

well the Inquisition calls, you best paint. Or else.

I finally got my new painting stuff!

Some Isopropyl, Alcohol based brush cleaner, synthetic miniature painting brushes and a few vial/pippet dropper combo's.



So the Liquid Copper kind of looks like this



Lets get started!
After watching a load of videos on this stuff I was ready to roll.

First you shake the paint very, very well.
Then you pour some into a pallet and close the bottle asap.
After that take some Isopropyl and use it to thin the paint.
And go!







So far it is just the base Copper washed down with strong tone.
The Cape is a couple of layers of foundation red.

Ready for the never ending layers of red!

The Liquid Copper has great coverage...kind of made me very aware of how poor the casting of this miniature is...
Ah well.

I might paint some more of him this coming week. Been really tired this week though, so who knows.
