115. A Road to Glory. Butter Biscuit Basecoat. Sister of Battle part 20.

I know, I know, it has been a while.

Being made redundant a while back really hit me hard emotionally and financially.
Lucky fr me the cover work I spoke of has carried me through just about, but November, December and January where not comfortable for me.

I did a bit of hobbying here and there, but didn't really feel any joy from it... in fairness I didn't feel a great deal of joy form anything.

Over January though my mood has improved, and I've focused on making as much progress I can, in the areas under my control

One of those areas is my hobby.


Sometime in November I set about the task of basecoating all of my Sisters of Battle.

This was a pretty long and arduous process, especially considering
a ) I'm a terribly slow painter
and
b ) I hate batch painting
Purples, Greens, Browns and Blacks (for the black parts and in anticipation of the metal parts)

I'm happy to report though that they are all done... or hey were, until I acquired some more XD
( I couldn't turn down the new canonness and plastic Celestine!)

It took me until late December to finish these basecoats, and then I took a break from them and did some work on some other stuff (which I have subsequently completed, so expect pictures soon)

I'm going to try and forge ahead.
I imagine I'll get distracted at some point though, so no promises.

100. One Hundred Posts! #TBT to when it all started! It Came From the Underhive. Escher Gang part 5.

Throwing it all the way back!

The last time I updated the Escher Gang was back in June 2014!

But this Throwback is actually a tribute to how this blog first started.

My very first post back in September 2011 was about my Escher Gang, and the very reason this blog was created.
'It Came From The Underhive' was my very first solo blog project.


So I thought I'd rekindle this project and show it some of my now crazy productive hobby love!
And what better way than focusing on one of the very reaons I started this blog.... the epicenter of my Escher Gang.

The 'promiscuous princess.'

Back in my second ever post I knew she was going to be the leader of my gang, hence the title of the post (check it out here - http://theunderhivehero.blogspot.co.uk/2011/09/urlhttpwww.html).
Sure enough my 3rd post was about her, and you can check her out in all her metal glory by following the link in that post...

But enough flashbacks.... let's get to that update... that sweet, sweet update!







She's come a long way from her bare metal days!
But here she is, the daughter of an imperial noble who ran away to the underhive, taking her father baroque plasma pistol with her to face the underhive alone.
Her connections to power, though diminished, all but guaranteeing her a fats route up the ranks of the local street gangs, and her pistol did the rest.
Now embroiled in the criminal activities of the Escher gang (still with no name after all these years) she leads the charge through the underhive.

A MODEL DONE!? I KNOW!?!

93. A Road to Glory. Fly You Fools! Sisters of Battle part 19.

While I'm deciding what colour to paint my Imperial Knight I thought I'd work on some other stuff I've been neglecting...so I've been doing a spot of painting and trying to finish off projects here and there.

On project that has been crying out to be finished is my much loved Sisters of Battle.



I had someone make a mold of the metal prototype and have been casting these from green stuff.

As well as this I've started the long process of undercoating and base coating, as well as tidying up the tanks and stuff.

While I've been doing this I've thought about expanding the army a little.
Someone bought me a squad of Sister Repentia. I love the way this unit looks so I've been considering building them.
As well as this, I've got enough Battle Sisters spare to throw in another Battle Sister Squad for extra bodies if needed.
I pretty much 'need' to build 4 heavy flamers and a Promethium relay pipe for my new 1,500 point army anyway, so it wont hurt.

Who knows what else?
Another Exorcist maybe?
Some extra priests?

We'll see.
But expect to see an appearance from L'ordre Des Angels soon!

66. Procrastiantion; A Device for Instigating Painful Time Travel - Blood Bowl! Part 3.

Crazy stupid title && MOAR #ThrowbackThursday

Blood Bowl! You heard!

I know, I should be painting other things. Basically I decided if I was going to start painting again I need to wind back into it. I didn't want to jump into a model at a sub par standard.
So procrastination? kind of, but for a decent reason.

Painful time travel? Certainly.
I'm painting an Ork test miniature. If you can cast your mind back to my first Blood Bowl post, 385 days ago (August 8th), you'll probably be able to gather why this isn't the most comfortable. I shouldn't be the one painting these.
But I am.
I was always likely to... but I didn't want it to be under these circumstances.

Life kicks you when your down. But then, isn't that the rules in Blood Bowl?

So here is the prototype Ork so far;












Despite this inauspicious sounding start I really enjoyed painting this guy so far.
I've always found layer Red's and Green's a therapeutic process... and I really like the way he's looking so far.
He is a bit 'clean.' Maybe I'll address that later.
Also, 'll list the colour recipes later, when it is finished and I'm happy with the complete article.

65. Throwback Thursday - Inqusitor Coteaz Part 1.

Yep. I'm revisiting an old project (pretty much the theme of my life right?).
And this, the first post is technically the third?
BUT
Throw Reboot on the title, and we're back to square 1!

Ramble = Done.

 For those of you who don't follow my Work in Progress thread on The Bolter and Chainsword this all makes no sense right now.
So first off, you should go check that shit out you deek! (Link on the left < of the page).
Secondly, and possibly more importantly (as both you and I are lazy no doubt) I'll recap it all here for you.

Back on the 9th of September 2011 I decided to bring all of my various Work in Progress threads under one title.
To keep it simple and clean.

My first post (post introduction) was the start of my Inquisitor Coteaz for my current army in progress at the time; The Grey Knights.

I decided I hated the current models pose; The Cyber-Eagle really bugged me, and his hammer was not epic enough.

So I cut him up a bit.

Afterwards I wondered how I'd represent the Eagle and such (#WYSIWYG).

Eventually I came upon this concept; sod the Eagle!

So this is what I came up with...




This depicts Coteaz later in his career; the trials of being a Malleus Inquisitor start to take its toll.
The constant battles with Daemons and the forces that besiege the Imperium have left him worn.
His signature artefacts lost or destroyed, he now relies on his impressive psychic abilities to forge onward. But it isn't enough.
He has to delegate power across the sector he occupies which eases the burden, allowing him to travel more freely.
Yet with the fall of the Cadian gate the forces of the warp grow ever more powerful.
Coteaz finds that, in order to keep up, the rigid puritan views he once held are starting to crack and crumble. He has to use methods that in his prime he denounced as heretical.
His force staff is imbued with psychic technology that far surpasses the levels of human intellect.
this potent weapoin amplifies his powers allowing him to strike with the same power he once did with his hammer, while at the same time attuning his senses to the reality that surrounds him (This for game purposes would serve to replace the thrice dammed Cyber-Eagle).

Foreshadowing done!

That is kind of as far as I got.
With the new Grey Knight codex out I  decided to start painting him.
I wanted to paint him in line with the 'ageing' idea in this potential future; aged, battered, needing rest and repair.

So I prepared him for painting...



and I picked up some Vallejo Liquid metals for the job.




Anyone used these?

Well I hadn't, and still haven't.

I did learn a few things though...
Liquid metal is alcohol based.... and has a bunch more metal chips in than your metallic acrylics.
What does this mean?

A ) You can't thin the paint with water. It doesn't react well with the alcohol, or the metal.
You end up with dry paint and a brush covered in stiff metal chips..
On that note
B ) It is really hard to clean in water because of this.
C ) Also if water makes constant contact with the paint in the pot it will rust. Seriously.

So you need alcoholic thinner and alcoholic cleaner.

This throws up another problem
You can't use sable brushes. The combination of alcohol and heavy metal will ruin them.

So I've now purchased the thinner, the cleaner and a set of high quality synthetic brushes...
Should have Googled that a bit better the first time round...


Anyway that is it for now.
