28. An Annoyed and Excited Journey Along a Road to Glory. Sisters of Battle part 11. The Last Superior.

It is here! Huzzah!

I have managed to get my hands on a copy of the new Sisters book. I have yet to read it though.
So for the time being, here is what was to be my final Sister superior

Found her on ebay. Didn't come with an icon.
I might replace the sword with something more flashy at a later date, but it will do for now.

Time to do those backpacks.
And read the new book

27. Follow The Grey-Concreate-Slabbed Road. Building a Gaming Board part 6.

Sooo, about that update...

And as usual it will come in fits and starts. Expect an immediate update on my Sisters of Battle.

I managed to sort some board out. I've finished the pavement on the two straight road pieces.
I wrote up a little step by step if you want to steal/borrow/use the concept for your own stuff.

You will need;
  • PO210 00/H0 Self Adhesive Paving - found here: http://www.metcalfemodels.com/00-self-adhesive-paving - I suggest about 4 packs; two per road. They are well worth it to be honest as the can be used for basing too. I used them on my Necromunda gang
  • PVA glue - While the tiles are self adhesive, the adhesive quality is poor. Glue them down.
  • Tea Stirrers (See previous post about making the curb)
  • A LOT OF TIME!
Seriously. It takes about an four hours to do one board.

First off take a look at the slabs.

You'll be using the long slab, and the short slab. Put the squares and curves to one side.

Step two.

Using the lines you should already have on you board as a guide, put a row for long tiles out.
This should be about 5 long slabs.

Attach a curb piece (cut as before) as you go.

Step three

Unless you want a uniform running row of tiles, you need to mix it up a bit.
Using 4 long slabs, and two short slabs make another row.

Step Four
REPEAT!
Until you get halfway.

Step Five

Flip the board round and do the same on the other side.
This allows that half of the pavement to dry.

Step Six & Seven

Flip. Repeat.

DONE.

I love the way they look. Sure it takes a fair whack of time, but it is quite addictive and therapeutic.

A couple of tips;
  • Make sure to straighten each row as you go,
  • Have a cloth or sponge to soak up excess glue is necessary,
  • Save detailing (damage, weathering) until after it is dry,
  • Have a jewellers saw handy just in case you manage to go over.
This week I'll attempt to do some of the curved road piece in between bouts with the new Sisters list.
Harumph.

All feedback welcome.
Ciao

26. Mobile Frustration

Hey guys,
This update comes from my phone. Something to pass the time on the bus.

Sorry for the lack of updates recently, but I have found my hobby efforts frustrated of late.

Firstly, I thought I had misplaced my heavy bolter Retributors power packs, only to realise that they are the same as normal sisters.

Secondly, just as I have finished my sisters army (building at any rate), GW release a new codex! Admittedly it is a PDF only, but an update never the less. Back to the drawing board? Only time will tell.

I have been hobbying in absence of updating my armies.

I did some work on my gaming board... but I'm saving the update on that for when I've finished the current stage.

I have also done some work on my Human blood bowl team!
So expect an update on that soon.

Anyways...
Until then.

25. Random Update part 3 - Charity.

As the title suggests I did my bit to help out charity.

I spent 99p on an item (The full price tag of the item. No haggling).

Wanna see it?

Near mint condition. Was missing 1 door mount/base, which I promptly bought for £1.54.
Total expenditure £2.53.
Current sales range for a complete set? £50 - 100 +

Yeah. I know.

If you want to know more about it, Google it, or look here - http://www.unboxedtheboardgameblog.com/2010/01/space-crusade.html

If you want to try it for yourself, either
A) Look in charity shops and see if you can find a copy/ get the missing components
B) Buy it of ebay (I might even sell this one)
C) All rules/pieces/boards can be found in printable format here -  http://johnliu.net/spacecrusade/
PS. You are welcome

PEACE

24. A Road to Glory. Sisters of Battle part 10. Rank and File, Filed as Completed (ish).

Hey guys, I'm back!

If you've read my previous post I did some damage to my thumb, which fortunately has healed now.
In truth it healed a while back, but I went on holiday to Burnham-On-Sea... it was a'ight... never mind eh?

Anyway. Updates!
You don't want them?
Sounds a lot like how I'd react to the Ecclesiarchy ramming their media down my throat...
Hang on... I am the Eccles...

TAKE UPDATE HERETIC! IN THE NAME OF THE...

...And that's enough of that.

HQ's.

In a previous post I was complaining about the Uriah Jacobus model.
well, I finally came up with a solution/ a couple of possibilities;

or

Simple conversion really. A bit of plasticard tubing, a sisters banner and my custom shotgun on a redemptionist body.
I'm not sure about which head I prefer; The original redemptionist skull with priestly hat is pretty creepy, or the manic, on-fire flagellent head which is, well, MANIC!
Nothing says Religion more than death and mania.
Tough choice.
Opinions on this would be most welcome (I'll try and get a better picture of the faces).

On to the other HQ conundrum... St. Celestine.

My main issues with Celestine were;
A) Her weapons - not a fan of the 'flaming sword' concept. Would much prefer two weapons/ remove the stupid dove thing.
B) Her cherubs - I wanted her to fly, but look similar in design to my seraphim.
C) Her base - I wanted her to remain somewhat airborne and have a fairly decorative, yet not too ostentatious, base.

I think I got it.... what do you reckon?

Stuck with the conversion I showcased previously, but finally got round to adding a base (the weird thing shes pinned to is the candle stick murder weapon from cluedo, but painted gold).
I intend, like many of my sisters models, to add candles and all that jazz to the basses; that stick will certainly be getting one to hide the pin.
The two models on the base are just some old redemptionist models I happened to have lying around.

HQ's - Done.

Now, back to basics; the rank and file.

Nothing much to say really. Worked on the remaining two Battle sister squads:

Flamer squad;

Flexible/Home objective squad;

The keen eyed of you may have noticed the Sister Superior in both squads is identical.
I am currently awaiting delivery of the out of production Cannoness with combi- flamer to be one of my superiors.
She is the last infantry model that needs to be completed for my 1,500points list to be completed.

Last stage here is adding back packs/ heavy weapons, and then I move on to refurbishing my tank pool

I Hate tank tracks.... so who knows when that will happen!

Cheer for reading guys. Comments and stuff welcome!

23. Random Update part 2 - House Army, aka, Something different. Again.

A while back I was discussing the hobby with a friend.
This friend is whom originally got me into the hobby (and probably why I've ended up doing Salamanders).

We were talking about how a substantial portion of our friends were into strategy games and board games. Which brought us on to 40k.
A couple of these friends have expressed interest in the hobby before, just not the financial backing, time or resolve to build an army.
We thought it would be great if we could get these folk to play.
But how to go about doing this, without lending them one of my armies (as currently I have no playable armies XD), or throwing proxies around?

One of the pulls of 40k is making your own list, and playing games with nicely painted armies on awesome battlefields (like pretty much all table top war games). So this is what needs to be done.
Then it hit us.
A House army.

I find myself in a unique position: I have way more Space Marines than I have use for.
So the basic idea is, in adittion to my armies, I will also be building a basic set of Space Marines for any, none hobbyists to get stuck in with.
They will be built, and painted, and ready to rock; just like a board game.

If they don't like the game, then fair enough. If they decide they do, then they can keep using the house army. If they decide they want to use 'X unit' instead of 'my Y unit,' then they can go out and buy that for themselves/ donate one to the house army. Thus getting folk started in a more exciting way.

Anyway, enough writing.
I did a test model for it....well, I started one at any rate.

med_gallery_33843_6479_292336.jpg

I've decided to wait until the new codex lands before continuing with either Space Marine project.

But what do you guys think?
Yay house army, or neigh?
What do you think about the test marine
?

Any comments/criticism on this warmly welcomed

Thanks for reading/ adding to my google adsense account. ;).

22. A Bolter Shell Covered Road to Glory. Sisters of Battle part 9. Retribution.

Short and sweet with this update.

I've refurbished and based another squad (almost). This time I went with retributors.
I need to do the backpacks, and the heavy bolters, but the important/ time consuming parts are done!

Pictures!

Bolter Sisters.

Squad Shot.

med_gallery_33843_5957_604607.jpg

Completed sisters so far (on one of my sprayed wasteland pieces).

med_gallery_33843_5957_1174739.jpg

That is some bad picture quality (good enough to spy some tarmac in the background mind ;])

2/6 Squad completed; 3 x 10 Battle Sisters and some Dominions (for my 400 point list) to go (Oh and Celestine's base and a counts as Jacobs).

Sisters update.
Done.
